Get Your Trainers On and Beat the Disease,

The timetable

From 29th June to 2nd July

at Ombrosa Lycée Multilingue de Caluire (69)

"Get Your Trainers On and Beat the Disease", is the flagship campaign of the European Association for Leukodystrophies (ELA*) sponsored by Zinédine Zidane. The campaign has been running in schools throughout the year and recently pupils in CM1 and CM2 took part in a fundraising race for the charity.

Each pupil gave some time and used their legs to think of others whilst challenging themselves to reach a targeted number of laps around the palaying field. Every single class was hugely successfule and the smiles on the pupils' faces were a joy to behold.

This event was initiated in January when IB pupils came to talk to classes about the association and the disease. More than 2,000 schools and 500,000 pupils are involved in the campaign each year. Primary and secondary school pupils symbolically lend their legs to children suffering from leukodystrophies which is a rare genetic disease that destroys the central nervous system and all too often leads to death.

During the February holidays puils received sponsorship forms and then had to find sponsors willing to support the ELA. This project generated respect and empathy for others and also raised funds for medical research and support for families touched by the disease.

Unfortunately the timetable was upset by the health crisis but we managed to get there in the end!

Altogether we raised 6,416,50 euros in donations…. A huge thank you to everyone involved and well done to pupils and teachers for enabling this project to become such a great success!

L’Association, reconnue d’utilité publique depuis 1996, a 4 missions principales :

1.                    Financer la recherche médicale

2.                    Informer et accompagner les familles concernées

3.                    Sensibiliser l’opinion publique

4.                    Développer son action au plan international
