In Ombrosa, we are convinced that a student cannot thrive only through the acquisition of academic knowledge. All skills are paramount, but are not enough to face the challenges of Higher Education, professional life and their personal future.
This is why we decided to explicitely integrate the development of interpersonal skills and learning approaches throughout our schooling in Secondary School.
Inspired by the reknown pedagogy of the International Baccalaureate (IB), this endeavor benefits all of our students.
Learning does not simply entail memorizing knowledge or even develop skills, but also understand how to use them. Students work on their communication, thinking, research, coopertation and ability to organize themselves. These interdisciplinary skills are integrated into the learning by out teaching staff. They allow students to become progressively more autonomous, critical thinkers, and committed.
Self-evaluation occupies an essential position in that prospect. Students are invited to recognize their assets, identify their strenghts and spot their needs. That way, they can then settle their goals and chose adapted strategies with the support of their teachers. By better understanding the way they learn, they develop their aotonomy and earn motivation and confidence.
Each trimester, students receive a skills booket allowing them to visualize their progress in all the different skill areas. Complementing the educational evaluations, the booklet brings visibility to their achievenements, and highlights the next steps in their development. These are no regular evaluation, but a tool to guide them in their progress. Thus, students have clear reference points to further their efforts and mesure their evolution.
Higher Education require to be able to work in autonomy, conduct research and collaborate effectively. They also require students to communicate clearly, get organized and show initiative. By developing these skills in Secondary, students learn solid methods and then approach the next step of their path with more confidence and maturity.
In Ombrosa, education means to pass on knowledges while supporting all these young individuals to build their own course. Development of interpersonal skills bring visibility to the learnings, and supports the well-being of our students. It allows them to grasp meaning, to better know themselves, to cooperate and understand the world around them. All students can thus reveal their true potential, and becore the main characters in their success.
