Why is Ombrosa an IB World School?
Through its educational approach, its content and coherence and of its educational action, the IB offers a deeply-thought vision, based on the students, adapted to their needs, realities and stakes of the 21st century.
Given its educational project and public, Ombrosa is fully integrated in the mission and the environment of the IB.
Mission of the IB
The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
Our mission – International Baccalaureate®
In 2005, Ombrosa High School has been authorized by the IB for the Diploma Programme (DP). Ombrosa had to develop the educational organization of High School to give students the choice of the best-suited means to their approach and path, to conclude their schooling with a concrete sprinboard towards their future, both personal and educational.
As for today, the IB Diploma Programme if largely present in Ombrosa High School. It is separated from the General section of the French Baccalaureate over the years of Première (Grade 11) and Terminale (Grade 12). It offers a wide variety of subjects that answer a great diversity of profiles for our students, whether they are initially national or international.
All parties of the school community: families, students, staff, school find themselves within and active endeavour with set goals, values and concepts that are both relevant, unifying, and adapted to the realities and stakes of the 21st century.
The question of meaning in learning is central in education. In a world evolving more and more quickly, the development of inherent skills and personal attitudes is necessary to support their personal social evolution and deserve all the attention to their thorough development, both for their immediate benefit and motivation that comes from it and for the durability of their relevance.
Ombrosa High School specifically welcomes students for several years in this field, in interaction and educational approach, but also in the feedback handed to students to allow them to use their reference points to build their own development.
In 2026, Middle School enters its second year of explicit work on learning skills:
thinking, research, communication, self-management, social.

Whether we wish to reflect in “theory of knowledge” which holds a central place within the DP, or to developp an educational sequence intertwinning several disciplines, the aim is to mobilize the interaction of dynamics and skills to better percieve meaning.
Within the IB approach, learning several languages does not simply entails gathering linguistic skills; it also means to learn how to think, understand and communicate through several cultures and prisms over the world. Bilingualism thus becomes a strong educational tool and signal of international openness.
In Ombrosa, developping or strenghthening French/English bilingualism takes place at all levels of schooling. A very significant part of our student-body validates the bilingual version of the IB DP, and several other languages are also taught within the offered curriculum.
